Highlights Xtend24 | TimeXtender Partner Event

On May 22 and 23, 2024, the TimeXtender Partner Event Xtend24 took place in beautiful Stockholm. Also this year Cmotions was present again. In addition to valuable networking opportunities, the latest TimeXtender developments were shared during this event. We would like to share the highlights here.

Launch: TimeXtender Holistic Data Suite

In January, we shared that TimeXtender acquired Exmon. Now has TimeXtender the Holistic Data Suite launched, which is based on Exmon. In the coming time, this will be increasingly integrated into TimeXtender so that the look and feel matches TimeXtender.

The TimeXtender Holistic Data Suite consists of the following products:

TimeXtender Data Integration

This was formerly known as TimeXtender V6XXX/TimeXtender SaaS. In this product, you can build the data infrastructure from data ingestion, data transformation and data modeling, to delivering correct, reliable data for data analysis in Power BI and Qlik, among others. In this, many different data infrastructures are supported such as Azure, Snowflake, Amazon AWS and Fabric.

TimeXtender Master Data Management

This can also be called "the home for homeless data. In other words, data that is not (or cannot be) captured in existing applications. Think of budgets, forecasts or certain mappings of data that are often recorded in Excel files. The disadvantage of this is that mistakes can easily be made.

TimeXtender Master Data Management allows you to manage that data through a simple web-based page. You can assign rights, check whether the entered data meets predetermined conditions, and enable extensive logging of changes. If master data (e.g. customers, articles, suppliers, etc.) is recorded in multiple systems, TimeXtender Master Data Management can be used to create an overarching central dataset for this data. The result can then easily be read back into TimeXtender Data Integration.

TimeXtender Data Quality

With TimeXtender Data Quality, data quality is monitored. You can apply this to data in a Data Warehouse, but also directly to data in the data source. In advance, you can define different quality rules that the data must meet. Does the data not meet the rules? Have an automatic e-mail sent to the data owners: after all, they are responsible for the data quality. In the mail or web-based portal, the data owners immediately see which data does not meet the data quality requirements. They can then correct the data in the data source.

TimeXtender Orchestration

In TimeXtender Orchestration, TimeXtender reloads can be scheduled. In addition to scheduling reloads, a visual representation of the reload process can be created and then accessed through a web-based portal. Administrators of TimeXtender, or even data users, can access this portal. Here you can immediately see the current status of various reloads, including the logging. Should a reload fail, its impact on other reloads can be seen immediately - you can receive an automatic e-mail about this. You can also start reloads from the portal. Besides TimeXtender reloads, other tasks can also be triggered from TimeXtender Orchestration such as PowerShell Scripts, Azure Data Factory pipelines, Power BI reloads or Qlik reloads.

All of the above products can be purchased separately. With TimeXtender Holistic Data Suite all needs related to. data warehousing, master data management, data quality and orchestrating all these tasks can be fulfilled.

TimeXtender Data Integration

It won't surprise you, but the new version of TimeXtender will eventually become a full SaaS solution. We don't expect this to happen anytime soon, but know that this is ultimately the plan with the 6XXX version. If you want to continue using the on-premises version, we have good news for you.

TimeXtender Classic

In addition to TimeXtender Data Integration, TimeXtender Classic also remains available as a fully supported product. This refers to the current TimeXtender V20.10.x version. Previously, this product was designated as a Long Time Support (LTS) version which meant that eventually everyone had to migrate to TimeXtender Data Integration. TimeXtender has decided to call this product TimeXtender Classic from now on, also it is no longer an LTS version, but a full-fledged product. And that means that the product will also continue to be developed. TimeXtender Classic only works with fully SQL-based infrastructure, so not with Azure Data Lake, Snowflake, AWS or Fabric.

What's next?

Unified Portal Redisign

The Exmon and TimeXtender portal will be integrated with each other, creating the same look and feel.

Fabric/OneLake support

As in shared an earlier article TimeXtender is busy supporting Fabric. They are going to roll this out in phases. The first phase has now been completed, making it possible to store the data in ODX in Fabric/OneLake. They are currently working to also enable support for the n Fabric/OneLake from TimeXtender. This will also enable transformations in Fabric/OneLake.

End-to-end data lineage

In addition to Exmon, TimeXtender has also acquired BI Builders. This gives TimeXtender more knowledge about integrating data lineage up to the report/dashboard. The idea is to further extend data lineage so that with this additional functionality you can actually analyze whether a specific field is used in a Power BI and/or Qlik dashboard, and possibly even in which object.

Team development

TimeXtender has also indicated that team development will be improved. In what way is not yet known, but we expect that parts can be locked again so that you can no longer overwrite each other's parts resulting in a corrupted repository.
