Target to Data Model

Data is gold as the connector at your vision and mission

With the Target to Data model, we put your data to work for your organization. The model establishes the relationship between data, insights, applications and organizational goals. Think for example of profit, cost minimization and customer satisfaction. Target to Data provides guidance and is the starting point for more data-driven work. And you are golden with your data!

How works the Target to Data model?

The Target To Data model is a layered and integral model that establishes the relationship between data and insights, its application and how it contributes to organizational goals. Here we look at both the internal situation and the external context (customer, market, external data) of the organization.

The key is to first develop a shared picture of the business and customer goals such as profit, cost minimization and customer satisfaction and to name these concretely in indicators and time. From goals we make the transition to drivers - so which factors (price, optimal processes, personal and relevant communication, etc.) influence the achievement of the goals and then, which channels and means can we deploy to concretely move these drivers in the desired direction. What knobs can we actually turn?

Based on what is needed to deploy these resources smarter (more effectively or efficiently), we name desired insights (models, analyses, triggers) and translate that into data needs. Data is the fuel for the insight needed. We identify both existing and potential data sources and their desired quality that feed the analyses, models and triggers.

Once the different layers of the model are filled, it should be possible to draw the lines between them. So what data, leads to what insight, to what smarter use of resources, with what effect on the drivers and related goals. If we are not able to connect from the analytics layer to application and goal it is a non-actionable insight. Or if we cannot substantiate the line drawn (directly or after measured application) the initiative delivers no value.

Ultimately, it's about being able to see, recognize and test together the targeted and value-added use of resources based on data & analytics. When we develop a Target to Data model for your organization, the goals that are optimized from data and insight are captured in one record. This is used to visualize the data strategy and as a blueprint for steering and integral management dashboards.

"With the Target to Data model, we have the dot on the horizon and the direction of our data initiatives in focus. It's a living thing that allows us to constantly test whether we're on the right track."

How can you become more data-driven?

With the Target to Data model, data strategy gains focus, but actual data-driven work also requires translation into what the organization needs to do.

Based on the Target to Data model, we elaborate the model into a roadmap for data-driven work. We determine in the growth model for data-driven organization where the organization now stands, where the ambition lies and how that translates into concrete steps per organizational aspect.
