The successful data transformation at BOM.

- A retrospective .

Three years ago, Coen van der Snoek started at the Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM). An organization that was taking its first steps with Power BI after a CRM implementation.

The assignment.

Helping set up a stable and future-proof reporting environment. June 30 was Coen's last working day at BOM and he looks back with pleasure on a fine cooperation and nice results. People can manage data with confidence and there is a data team that facilitates this.

About BOM.

Entrepreneurship is the driver for innovation. From sustainable food, a healthy future, climate-neutral energy to the development of promising key technologies. BOM ensures that start-ups that contribute to this with the right support and financing get off to a flying start. BOM also ensures that companies with internationalization ambitions can realize them. Every year, BOM realizes impact together with dozens of companies. BOM is an implementing agency of the Province of North Brabant and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

About the dedication and method, Coen tells himself:

During the process, we made strides on all the elements essential to such an environment.

9

First, we focused on developing reliable financial reports. This was essential for steering and accountability to shareholders and auditors. The focus was not only on the right KPIs and data quality, but also on reusability and clear visualization standards. This resulted in a set of reports that are both functional and understandable for different user groups.

9

At the same time, we further professionalized the underlying Power BI environment to create structure and ensure quality and stability for end users. That included setting up clear governance agreements, establishing a development street, structuring workspaces and managing access rights on AD groups. We worked with semantic models (shared datasets) to ensure consistency, limit access and minimize duplicate maintenance. These environmental elements provided the technical and organizational basis for scalability and continuity.

9

To strengthen adoption, I worked with end users of the various competencies within the BOM (invest, internationalize and innovate). Through design workshops, training and guidance, they gained insight into the capabilities of the data and confidence in working with the available reports. As a result, data-driven work grew within the organization.

9

Creating reliable steering information that is actually used requires specific knowledge and skills among developers. I supported the internal developers in their professional growth. Through coaching, knowledge sharing and the transfer of best practices, they are now able to develop and manage independently. This ensures continuity - even after my departure.

The result of 3 years of cooperation is a stable Power BI environment, which is now fully managed and further developed by the internal organization. This provides reliable management information, faster processes and a solid basis for data-driven work. Through a gradual transfer and good cooperation during the process, the knowledge is really secured.

So I step out the door feeling confident and proud. Of course after a typical BOM farewell with a good lunch and a lap on the mountain bike in the Loonse and Drunense Dunes.
