Smart AI makes data-driven work easier for VDK group.

In plant engineering, efficiency is crucial. The VDK group, a nationwide service provider with more than 60 independent, specialized companies, faced a challenge: how to organize the growing amount of project data in a uniform and efficient way? Thanks to the cooperation with Cmotions and the deployment of a custom-developed AI model, this challenge is now a thing of the past.
The challenge:
time-consuming project classification.
Within the VDK Group, dozens of companies work daily on a variety of projects. Think of the installation of heating systems, complex air treatment systems or installations for security technology. All these projects have one thing in common: they generate a large amount of data that must be carefully managed and classified.
Until recently, these classifications for the purpose of portfolio analysis were performed manually. This is a time-consuming, error-prone and difficult task to standardize. Projects were not always classified in the same way, which made it difficult to compare similar projects and generate valuable insights. In short, an innovative solution was needed.

The solution: a customized AI model.
In collaboration with VDK Group, we developed a large-scale language model that fully automates project classification. By analyzing data from thousands of projects, we trained a model capable of correctly labeling projects for four different categories with great accuracy. The result is a unified, consistent and efficient way of data management of all projects being executed.
The model uses Natural Language Processing (NLP), a technology by which language is analyzed and understood. The AI model reads a project's available data - such as descriptions, items used and other specifications - and uses this information to automatically classify the project with the appropriate label.
Impact on the organization.
The impact of this AI model is significant. Not only are projects now processed faster and more efficiently, but the comparison of different companies and projects within VDK group has been improved. Everyone works with the same, uniform project classifications, making comparing projects easier than ever. This opens the door to new insights and improvements.
